Focus On The Good
We were on our daily Zoom this morning when I felt something quite profound.
Every morning we host a conference call for our entire group. We began to do this back in March when lockdown started, and inter-company relationships have established and grown beyond our expectations. That’s been incredible to watch, but it wasn’t what hit me.
It was the fact that we were all laughing. Eleven people, scattered around the UK, from all corners of our business, just laughing.
It may seem like a small thing, and in the grand scheme of things maybe it is, but we’re surrounded by negativity at the moment. The media is pumping it out and the news is the same. Death statistics, stories of hardship, economic catastrophe and other assorted gloom stories are on TV, the radio and on our phones. We’re experiencing challenges in our own companies and without doubt, times are tough. But we just refuse to succumb to the negativity propaganda.
Fidelis is still open.
We’re still speaking to business owners and trying to help them through their challenges.
Last month we began hosting Q&A forums and sharing advice in our community and we’re constantly adding to the resources on our website. It’s vital that we carry on doing what we do, for the long-term benefit to our business, for the morale of our teams and for our own sense of fulfilment.
We’re focusing on what’s good.
The American motivational speaker Hilary Hinton ‘Zig’ Ziglar famously said, “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.” Literally, your positive attitude will take you to greater heights, and it’s no surprise that negative people get sick more often, struggle with relationships and don’t achieve the success they desire.
So, this morning I was moved by the collective positive attitude of our extended team and grateful for the laughter. Because one day this will all be over, and I know we’ll be even stronger for it.
